It operates in four segments: Consumer Banking and Lending, Commercial Banking, Corporate and Investment Banking, and Wealth and Investment Management.

The Consumer Banking and Lending segment offers a variety of financial products and services to consumers and small businesses, such as checking and savings accounts, credit and debit cards, and various loan products. The Commercial Banking segment offers customers banking and credit products, secured lending and leasing, and treasury management services. Corporate and Investment Banking offers services such as corporate banking, investment banking, treasury management, commercial real estate lending and servicing, equity, and fixed income solutions, as well as sales, trading, and research capabilities. Lastly, the Wealth and Investment Management segment provides personalized wealth management, brokerage, financial planning, lending, private banking, trust and fiduciary products and services to affluent, high-net worth, and ultra-high-net worth clients. It also operates through financial advisors.

Wells Fargo & Company was founded in 1852 and is headquartered in San Francisco, California. With over 8,000 locations in all 50 U.S. states and its presence in more than 35 countries, it is one of the largest banks in the country with more than 5,000 ATMs and more than 27 million customers. Wells Fargo also holds more than $1.9 trillion in assets and had over $2.2 trillion in deposits at the end of 2018. With more than 257,000 employees throughout the world, it is one of the highest employers in the U.S. banking industry.
