Steel Dynamics, Inc. is a leading producer and recycler of steel and metal products in the United States. Founded in 1993 and headquartered in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the company operates through three segments: Steel Operations, Metals Recycling Operations and Steel Fabrication Operations.

The Steel Operations segment produces a wide range of steel products including hot roll, cold roll and coated steel products, parallel flange beams and channel sections, flat bars, large unequal leg angles and reinforcing bars, standard strength carbon, intermediate alloy hardness and premium grade rail products, engineered special-bar-quality products, merchant-bar-quality products and other engineered round steel bars. This segment also provides turning, polishing, straightening, chamfering, threading, precision saw-cutting and heat treating of bar products, and cutting to length, straightening, hole punching, shot blasting, welding, galvanizing and coating of specialty products. Steel Dynamics’ steel products are used in various industries such as construction, automotive, manufacturing, transportation, heavy and agriculture equipment, and pipe and tube markets.

The Metals Recycling Operations segment purchases, processes and resells ferrous and nonferrous scrap metals into reusable forms and grades. This segment offers a variety of ferrous products such as heavy melting steel, busheling, bundled scrap, shredded scrap, steel turnings and cast-iron products, as well as nonferrous products including aluminum, brass, copper, stainless steel and other nonferrous metals. In addition, the Metals Recycling Operations segment provides transportation logistics, marketing, brokerage and scrap management services.

The Steel Fabrication Operations segment manufactures non-residential steel building components such as steel joists, girders, trusses and steel deck products. Steel Dynamics’ products are also exported to other countries.

Steel Dynamics, Inc. has grown to become a Fortune 500 company and is one of the largest steel producers in the United States. The company operates 11 steel production facilities and 5 metals recycling facilities across the United States. In 2020, Steel Dynamics reported net sales of $11.6 billion and employed approximately 8,500 people.
