Lyft, Inc. is an American ridesharing company that operates a peer-to-peer marketplace for on-demand transportation services in the United States and Canada. It was founded in 2007 by Logan Green and John Zimmer, and is headquartered in San Francisco, California. Lyft provides a variety of transportation options, including ride-hailing, car rental, bike and scooter sharing, and public transportation.

Ride-hailing is Lyft’s primary service. Through its app, riders can request a ride and drivers can accept the ride requests. Drivers are independent contractors who use their own cars to provide rides. Lyft also offers Express Drive, a car rental program that allows drivers to rent cars to use for ridesharing.

In addition to ride-hailing, Lyft provides bike and scooter sharing in various cities. Riders can find and unlock the bikes and scooters using the Lyft app. The company also integrates third-party public transit data into the app to offer riders various transportation options.

Lyft also offers a variety of other services. These include Lyft Pink, a subscription plan for riders; Lyft Pass, a commuter program; first-mile and last-mile services; and university safe rides programs. The company is also investing in autonomous vehicles and enterprise transportation solutions, such as concierge transportation solutions for organizations.

Since its launch, Lyft has grown to become one of the largest ridesharing companies in the world. As of 2021, the company operates in more than 600 cities and has over 30 million riders and nearly 2 million drivers. Lyft is also a publicly traded company, with its shares listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange.
