The Ingalls Shipbuilding segment designs, builds and repairs non-nuclear ships for the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard, such as amphibious assault ships; expeditionary warfare ships; surface combatants; and national security cutters. The Newport News Shipbuilding segment designs, builds and refuels nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and submarines for the U.S. Navy, in addition to providing refueling and overhaul, and inactivation services of ships.
Huntington Ingalls Industries provides an array of professional services, such as life-cycle sustainment services to the U.S. Navy fleet and other maritime customers; high-end information technology and mission-based solutions for Department of Defense, intelligence and federal civilian customers; nuclear management and operations and environmental management services for the Department of Energy, US DoD, state and local governments, and private sector companies; and unmanned systems.
The company has numerous facilities and subsidiaries located throughout the United States. Ingalls Shipbuilding operates a 38-acre, 1.2 million square-foot shipbuilding facility in Pascagoula, Mississippi, employing more than 11,500 people. The Newport News Shipbuilding facility, located in Newport News, Virginia, is an 88-acre, 3 million square-foot complex employing almost 13,000 people. The Technical Solutions and government services segment has more than 35 facilities in 11 states and more than 14,000 employees nationwide.
Huntington Ingalls Industries enjoys several high-profile contracts with the U.S. government, including a potential multi-year contract award with the U.S. Navy that could be worth up to $22.2 billion for the construction of nine new warships, with work beginning as early as 2021. Huntington Ingalls Industries also maintains contracts for the refueling and overhaul of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, and the nuclear refueling of the USS George Washington aircraft carrier.
