Chevron Corporation is one of the largest, most recognizable energy and chemical companies in the world. The company was founded in 1879, originally as the Pacific Coast Oil Company and is now headquartered in San Ramon, California. Chevron has operations in over 180 countries and territories and employs more than 50,000 people across the globe.

The company has operations and interests in over 25 countries worldwide and is the second-largest oil and gas producer in the United States. Chevron operates in two business segments, Upstream and Downstream. Upstream operations include exploration, development, production and transportation of crude oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids, and the marketing of these products. Downstream operations involve refining, shipping and marketing of finished products like gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, lubricants, and petrochemicals.

In addition to its oil and gas operations, Chevron specializes in power generation, financial services and real estate. The company has recently moved into renewable energy resources and has invested in solar, wind and geothermal energy.

Chevron is also leading the way in developing advanced technologies for its operations. This includes exploitation of shale gas and oil, deepwater drilling and carbon capture and storage. In 2018, Chevron became the first US energy major to commit to joining The Climate Pledge, a commitment to work towards reducing global greenhouse gas emissions. Chevron has also recently invested in the development of a new process that will enable it to capture and reuse up to 90% of the carbon dioxide generated by its operations.
