Carrefour SA is one of the largest retailers in the world, founded in 1959 in France, and currently operating stores in various formats and channels across ten countries - France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Poland, Romania, Brazil, Argentina, and Taiwan. The company operates hypermarkets, supermarkets, convenience stores, cash and carry stores, and hypercash stores, e-commerce sites, and service stations. Its stores offer a wide range of products, including fresh produce, local products, consumer goods, and non-food items such as electronic and household appliances, textiles, and childcare products. The company is also involved in a number of other activities related to retail, such as banking, insurance, property development, franchise activities, travel agency services, and the rental of shopping malls.

At the end of 2021, Carrefour SA operated a total of 2,340 stores in France and the rest of Europe, 442 stores in Latin America, and 374 stores in Taiwan and the Middle East and Africa, for a combined total of 3,156 stores. Of these, 253 were hypermarkets, 1,043 were supermarkets, 4,330 were convenience stores, 147 were cash and carry outlets, 26 were soft discount stores, 457 were hypermarkets, 1,926 were supermarkets, 3,430 were convenience stores, 12 were cash and carry outlets, and 81 were soft discount stores in rest of Europe, 184 were hypermarkets, 151 were supermarkets, 558 were convenience stores, 259 were cash and carry outlets, and one was a soft discount store in Argentina and Brazil, and 70 were hypermarkets, four were supermarkets, 274 were convenience stores in Taiwan, and 688 were stores through local franchisee partners in the Middle East, Africa, etc.

In 2020, Carrefour SA’s global revenues amounted to €80.8 billion, making it the second largest retailer in Europe and the tenth largest retailer in the world. The company employed approximately 389,000 people worldwide in 2020, making it a major employer across the countries it operates in. Additionally, the company is also focused on sustainability, and is dedicated to reducing its environmental impact and improving the sustainability of its products and suppliers. As part of this commitment, in 2020 it achieved a 32% reduction in CO2 emissions against a 2016 baseline, and has set a goal to achieve 50% renewable energy by 2025.
